Why Microdermabrasion Treatments Are So Popular

While there are a number of methods to improve the look of the surface of the skin, some are more popular than others. Of the available techniques for resurfacing the skin, Microdermabrasion is the most popular. It’s actually the third most popular technique out of all of the minimally invasive cosmetic procedures available in the United States. Because of this, there is a demand for people who have been trained in the necessary techniques. Just why are these treatments so popular?

Many Potential Benefits

This procedure is helpful in treating a number of minor skin issues. It can help with minimizing mild acne scars, fine lines, and uneven pigmentation in the skin. It may also help improve the look of clogged or enlarged pores and dull or oily skin. During the treatment, any dead skin is polished away, leaving the fresh, healthy skin underneath. This procedure helps encourage the growth of new collagen and makes it so moisturizers and lotions can be more easily absorbed by the skin.

Minimal Risks

As long as the person performing the Microdermabrasion is properly trained, there aren’t many risks with this procedure. The main potential risks include infection if the equipment hasn’t been sanitized properly or skin perforation if the equipment is used at a higher strength than recommended. These don’t usually occur, however. In most cases, there’s no pain involved in the treatment and there aren’t any side effects. There’s no need for any downtime after the procedure, so you can return immediately to work or home.

Potential Considerations

Some people may be more sensitive to the sun after they have this treatment, so it’s a good idea to avoid prolonged sun exposure without sunscreen. Also, for the best results it may be necessary to have multiple treatments rather than just one. More serious skin conditions, such as dermatitis, rosacea, and eczema aren’t helped with microdermabrasion. They require a more intense treatment. The procedure can’t be performed if you have open wounds on the face or are on a medication that makes the skin extra sensitive.
