When it comes to alcohol, many of us tend to drink socially or for fun. But some of us fall into an addiction to liquor, which will need intensive treatment and care. If you’re unsure of whether you’ve developed an addiction to alcohol and will need to admit yourself in a rehabilitation center, it’s best you check first whether you are experiencing the signs of alcohol withdrawal.
Alcohol withdrawal, as its name suggests, is a phenomenon that occurs after you suddenly stop drinking or taking a substance to which you have developed an addiction. Here are some of its manifestations:
Anxiety
Alcohol withdrawal can develop a form of anxiety whenever the substance isn’t taken into the body. Anxiety involves a form of unexplained nervousness, fear, or physical manifestation which you can’t control. This can be difficult to handle, and can be extremely persistent, although it is one of the more common signs of a moderate to severe form of alcohol withdrawal.
Hallucinations
Hallucinations, on the other hand, indicate a more severe form of withdrawal that persists for a few hours after you start taking the substance. These symptoms can be scary, and can definitely shake anyone with their sanity still in place. As soon as you or your loved ones begin to experience a form of hallucination a day after your last drink, contact your doctor.
Seizures
Seizures may take a longer time, but they certainly occur around two days for a severe manifestation of alcohol withdrawal. Seizures can range anywhere from slight tremors in your body, to full-blown seizures that affect your mobility and other senses. It’s no doubt that when this occurs, it’s time to contact your doctor and rush to the emergency room.
Alcohol withdrawal can manifest itself in lowkey ways, but this doesn’t mean it’s a less serious problem. Contact your local doctor today, if you suspect that you are manifesting one or all of these symptoms.
