3 General Tips to Help Manage the Lifespan of Your X-Ray Tubes

by | Jan 3, 2020 | Electronics and Electrical

X-ray tubes are pretty much designed to function properly and well under the most stressful and demanding conditions. The lifespan of x-ray tubes for floor standing systems is pretty much between 3 and 7 years. It all depends on the way of use, along with maintenance methods. So, here are a few ways you can better manage the lifespan of your packaged x-ray tubes:

General Tips for Extending Lifespan

1. Keep Using the X-ray Tube and Spectrometer

Packaged x-ray tubes are not meant to go long periods of time without being used. Try not to go longer than 6 months, as this can cause damage to them. X-ray tubes enjoy being warm and this also helps with keeping the vacuum nice and stable.

2. Take Advantage of the Iso-Watt Switching Feature

When you use this, you’re forcing the spectrometer to work at a constant power while it’s switching between the various measuring conditions. Constant power is going to help expand the lifestyle of the x-ray tube.

3. Use the Standby Setting

When you use the standby setting, the power and emission current shouldn’t be too high since this leads to shortening the lifetime. It’s not a problem to have a high kV setting though because it helps the tube remain stable against any flashes that might occur.
