Are Cuban Cigars Really the Best You Can Get?

by | Dec 1, 2017 | Shopping and Fashion

Cuban cigars have a reputation for being some of the best in the world. Smokers purport that these cigars provide a fuller, more robust flavor and better smoking experience than any other cigars, but is this really true? Is the preference for Cubans simply psychological, and can non-Cuban cigars measure up?

Why Cubans are so Renowned

There was a time when the bulk of cigars sold in America and across Europe were imported from Cuban almost exclusively. This is likely because the region has the resources that allow them to export these products in large quantities, but also because consumers found that Cuban products were stronger, fuller-bodied and more enjoyable than the sub-standard domestically produced cigars of the time. Smokers simply preferred Cubans for their flavor and feel, and this led to a sterling reputation for the Cuban cigar that has been passed down from generation to generation of cigar enthusiasts.

Retailers who carry extensive cigar collections may offer selections from all over the world, but shoppers will typically find that Cubans receive special focus and are often far more well-stocked than non-Cubans.

Are They Really Better?

Though there is certainly something to be said for the quality of genuine Cuban cigars, many modern aficionados would argue that smokers do themselves a disservice by not trying tobacco products from elsewhere in the world. Many cigar shops still boast their Cuban products as the best that they carry, but consumer experience is beginning to tell a different story.

Non-Cuban cigars still struggle to achieve the same sales and popularity as Cuban products, but wonderful, high-quality cigars are being produced annually all over the world. For devotees of the products, it’s a good decision to give these other excellent sources a try before deciding on a favorite, but it certainly isn’t a bad idea to keep cigars from across the globe in your personal humidor!
