A developer is planning to turn a vacant church site into a luxury townhouse development on North 77th Court in Elmwood Park.
The village purchased the former United Methodist Church of Elmwood Park and a house on the same lot in April for $390,000, Village Manager Paul Volpe said. The property sits at the corner of North 77th Court and Wellington Avenue.
At the Aug. 3 Village Board of Trustees meeting, officials approved a redevelopment agreement for the property to MK Construction & Builders Inc. for $460,000.
The Chicago-based developer plans to develop 12 three-bedroom townhouses with a courtyard, parking and landscaping.
“We just thought it would be a good idea for us to be able to take a property that is exempt from property taxes and put it back on the tax rolls and get some nice high quality housing there in the process as well,” Volpe said about the purchase and sale of the property.
The rezoning application is expected to be discussed at the Sept. 28 Plan, Zoning and Development Commission meeting, according to Volpe.
