Mazda and Subaru are both Japanese makers, but they are far from the same. Mazda has come a long way in the last few years, especially since they stopped using a rotary engine. Rotary engines are great for power, but not so much for reliability and fuel efficiency. Subaru is known for reliability but is not as popular of a brand as some others in the US. They do have a cult following, however, and it can be difficult to find a used Subaru in Frankfort or other areas since the people who have them tend to keep them.
Interior Room
When it comes to the interior room, the Subaru comes out ahead. Both vehicles are similar, but the Subaru is ultimately going to give you and your passengers more room and more cargo room. Both cars will seat up to five people and carry cargo for all of them.
Fuel Mileage
The Subaru Legacy pulls slightly ahead when it comes to fuel mileage. It offers 25 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway. By comparison, the Mazda6 has 24 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway. If fuel mileage is your main focus, then either of these will work and should give similar performance.
Transmission
The mazda6 comes standard with a manual five-speed transmission. The Subaru Legacy, on the other hand, comes with a CVT standard. A CVT is going to give you a much smoother ride. A CVT does not use gears but instead uses series of belts and pulleys to create an infinite number of gear ratios. This means there is no shifting gears at all. It also means your mileage will not suffer from having an automatic.
No matter which one you choose, both of these vehicles are excellent choices for a family sedan. If you are looking for the best all-around vehicle, then the Subaru is the better option. The all-wheel drive will also be helpful if you live in icy or snowy areas. Read more information about Subaru Legacy vs. Mazda6 only at Hawk Subaru of Joliet.
